Updates!

Well, it has been a significant amount of time I have posted any information on this competition. I have some unofficial standings, which are as follows:

1. Shayla (She has done it regularly the last 2 1/2 weeks)
2. Steve (My new roommate, has used it semi-regularly since the beginning)
3. Rob (I have used it 1-3 times a week)
4. Chris (I don't know how much, but it should be similar to me)

For everyone else, I know that they haven't spent a significant amount of time.

Now, I also wanted to post a bit of information about records on some of the Wii Fit games. First, Steve and I have been having a little competition between the ski jumping game. For the last two weeks we have been steadily increasing the record. Last saturday, I beat his record for a top score of 378?(Something like that)

I would like to get more involvement with a competition like this, but I would like to also make it accessible to those that can't possibly beat such very high scores. I don't know, but I'll figure something out.

From this Wednesday, there will we one week left in the competition, so we should all be more diligent in competing with Shayla, because she is now predicted to be the winner.

Rules for Competition

Hi everyone!

I am sorry that I didn't get around to writing up the rules and details of the competition earlier, but here are the details:

The competition lasts one month in which all competitors will compete on how regularly they use the Wii Fit video game. This is measured by how much time is used each day for the entire month. To ensure it is used regularly, there is a limit of 30 minutes per day and a limit of 180 minutes each week. These exist to encourage everyone to use Wii Fit every day for 6 days a week. The daily time limit is to avoid someone only exercising once or twice a week for 2 hours or more. By using it more frequently, it will hopefully help in forming a habit of using it regularly.

The competition begins with everyone recording their weight, which will be used as a bonus at the end of the month.

At the end of each week, each competitor will send an email to me at robwhallx@gmail.com with their totals so that the blog can have a posting of how many minutes each person has used. That way, everyone competing can see how they rank with everyone else.

At the end of the four weeks, the competitor with the highest number of minutes wins. The weight bonus rewards competitors that have lost weight over the month. The calculation is as followed:

(weight loss / total weight) * 3 * total minutes

Therefore, those who have been exercising outside of Wii Fit and have adopted a healthier diet will be given a modest bonus to their minutes score. For example, if I lost about ten pounds, and I used the total 720 minutes possible over the month, I would get about 120 extra minutes. This bonus would be about four days worth of time added. However, it is unlikely I would earn a total of 720 minutes, so I would get a smaller weight bonus.

The winner at the end of the competition wins something, which I have no idea yet. If anyone has a good idea of what would be a good prize, I would like to know.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am in getting this competition started! It will be interesting to see how regular use of Wii Fit has in my overall health. I used it regularly around November for about a week and I did notice a minor improvement in my health. Just think of what a month of regular exercise could do.

As for the beginning of the competition, I would like it to begin as soon as possible. I was proposing starting as early as Tomorrow (Monday) or as late as next Sunday (Beginning of a new week).
